Terms of use

These terms are the agreement between you and Phidox. They are short on purpose and written to be read.

Who we are

Phidox is operated by its founders as individuals, not an incorporated company, based in Quebec, Canada. You can reach us at privacy@phidox.com.

Language

These terms are available in English and in French. Both versions have the same meaning, and you may read and accept whichever you prefer.

What Phidox is — and is not

Phidox is a research tool that queries market data, runs statistical models and writes up what it finds, using an AI system. It is offered free of charge, and it may change, pause or stop.

Phidox does not give investment advice and does not recommend buying, selling or holding any security. Neither Phidox nor its operators are registered with the Autorité des marchés financiers or any other securities regulator. Read the disclaimer; it is part of these terms.

Your account

  • You must be at least 14 years old to create an account.
  • Give a real email address and keep your credentials to yourself.
  • One person per account. You are responsible for what happens under yours.
  • Free use is limited to a set number of questions a day. Working around those limits — multiple accounts, scripts, automated access — is not allowed.
  • Guests can ask a few questions without an account; these terms apply to guests too.

Acceptable use

Do not:

  • Present Phidox output as personalised investment advice, to yourself or to anyone else.
  • Use Phidox, or anything you publish on it, to promote a security in exchange for payment, to manipulate a market or create a misleading appearance of trading, or as part of anything unlawful.
  • Scrape, resell or redistribute the underlying market data. It is licensed to us, not to you.
  • Attempt to break, overload or reverse-engineer the service, or reach data that is not yours.
  • Try to make the AI produce content that breaks these terms or the law.

What you publish

You can publish analyses and alerts, and comment on other people's. Publishing makes the content and your display name visible to anyone. When you publish:

  • If you own, have shorted, or are paid in connection with a security your publication is about, say so plainly in it or in a comment on it.
  • Do not present it as advice to others, and do not publish anything false, misleading, defamatory, or that infringes someone else's rights or privacy.
  • You keep ownership of what you publish and give us permission to host and display it on Phidox for as long as it stays published. You can remove it at any time.

We do not review publications before they appear and do not endorse them. We may remove content that breaks these terms, and suspend an account that repeatedly does.

Alerts and backtests

Alerts re-run a saved query on end-of-day data and email you the result; you can pause or delete them at any time, and delivery is not guaranteed. Backtests are hypothetical simulations, not records of real trading.

Bring your own API key

If you connect your own model provider key, it is used only to answer your questions and is stored encrypted. That provider's charges and terms are between you and them.

Our responsibility

We build Phidox carefully, but the data may be wrong or stale, the models may be wrong, and the written analysis is generated by an AI system and may be wrong. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for any particular purpose, beyond the guarantees the law gives you and that cannot be excluded.

The following clause does not apply to consumers in Quebec. To the extent the law of your place of residence allows, we are not liable for any trading or investment loss, lost profit, or indirect, incidental or consequential damage arising from your use of Phidox, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to CAD $100.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited, including for bodily or moral injury, or for intentional or gross fault, and nothing here waives a right you have under the Quebec Consumer Protection Act or any other consumer protection law.

Ending it

You can stop using Phidox whenever you like, and delete your account and its data from your account page at no cost. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we decide to discontinue Phidox, we will tell account holders by email beforehand where we reasonably can, so you can take a copy of your data.

Changes to these terms

The elements of these terms we may change are: the rules of use and publication, the features offered and the daily limits, the alert and backtest rules, and the rules on responsibility and disputes. If you have an account, we will email you at least 30 days before a change takes effect. The notice will set out the new or amended clause and the clause as it read before, the date the change takes effect, and your rights. You may refuse the change by deleting your account, without cost or penalty, before it takes effect or within 30 days after. Changes are also announced on this page.

Disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. If you are a consumer residing in Quebec, you may bring a claim before the courts where you live. Otherwise, disputes go to the courts of the judicial district of Montreal. Nothing in these terms requires arbitration or prevents you from taking part in a class action.
